30% material savings on foundry produced components at Kompan

Kompan Czech Republic, s.r.o., a company that manufactures playground equipment, has saved 30% of material in the production of a key component. Thanks to a mathematical method called TOPOLOGICAL OPTIMIZATION, it calculated that one of the important components for playground construction can be produced with a 30% material saving without compromising its quality applying a more efficient mass distribution.

Using the calculations, it was possible to maximize the use of material while maintaining the functionality and utility of the part. What else did this method bring?

  • 30 % reduction in product weight
  • speeding up the production of one component by one fifth
  • reduction in the number of foundry defects
  • a significant reduction of carbon dioxide in production by 40 tonnes

All this while maintaining safety and all product functions.
